Minabel Elizabeth Groom passed away on September 19, 2009 following a long illness. Dr. Tom Ogburn, First Baptist Church, Oklahoma City said about Elizabeth, "She was a city girl who successfully found her way to the farm of her husband, Matthew Groom and his family." She was a woman of practicality and faith as she followed her husband as a stalwart companion during his employment with the Civil Service Department of Defense.

She enjoyed growing tomatoes and was a devotee to Julia Child. As Nicole Bondurant reminded us, she offered healthy red tomatoes and other garden foods to her neighbors. She patiently taught her nieces and nephews numerous cultural and social skills as well as ... how to tie their shoes.

Elizabeth exhibited her bravery with her health challenges. Her bond with Matthew lasted through 57 years of marriage. The music chosen for her services included the Beatles, "In My Life" and Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World."

Elizabeth, I will miss your smile, kind wave and gracious nature that you engendered to us.
